Educational Kit for the Project: The Brown Bear of the Pyrenees

We contributed to the educational component of the PirosLIFE project, a proposal aimed at schools across Catalonia to help children develop critical thinking and sensitivity towards nature. At the same time, it encourages children to become educators for their own parents.

This initiative was made possible through the coordination of the University of Lleida, the Chair of Education and Intangible Heritage of the Pyrenees, and the collaborative efforts of the Camp d’Aprenentatge de les Valls d’Àneu, the Pedagogical Resource Centers of Pallars Sobirà, Pallars Jussà, Alta Ribagorça, Val d’Aran, and the Entorn d’Aprenentatge de Tremp.

Finally, this project owes its success to the collaboration of the teachers and students from schools in Pallars Sobirà, Pallars Jussà, Alta Ribagorça, and Val d’Aran.

The Fallaire Kit

In December 2015, UNESCO included the Festes del Foc del Solstici d’Estiu (Summer Solstice Fire Festivals of the Pyrenees) in its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This milestone led to the creation of this educational project, making this tradition one of its primary areas of focus.

The objective of this project is to safeguard the tradition of the Falles, Haros, Halhas, and Brandons, promoting historical and ethnographic research, as well as developing educational programs and outreach activities.

The educational component of the project targets primary and secondary schools across the Pyrenean regions that celebrate these fire festivals, including Catalonia, Val d’Aran, Andorra, Aragón, and Occitania. The aim is for students to engage with the traditions and understand their cultural value.

This project, deeply rooted in the Pyrenean valleys, uses heritage as an educational tool, focusing on four main areas:

  1. Nature and Sustainability
  2. Languages
  3. Social and Cultural Studies
  4. Dance and Music

The coordination of this project has been carried out by the University of Lleida, the Chair of Education and Intangible Heritage of the Pyrenees, with collaboration from various regional fire associations, including those from Alta Ribagorça, Aran, Andorra, Berguedà, Haute Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, Pallars, Ribagorza, and Sobrarbe.
